The Martin Project

An Amazing Journey

The vision started with a wish-list of artists and songs that would shine when accompanied by the Martin, but quickly became a broader mission. The music community of Northern Colorado is rich with talent and generosity, and the project is gathering select Rocky Mountain artists to record one of their songs on Mark Cumming's Martin D35 guitar with the aim of creating an artist compilation album. All proceeds from the album will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Starting in January a group of 11 of some of the finest musicians around came one by one into the Acoustic Ranch Studio to record their original song on Mark's Martin guitar. Some of the artists such as Cary Morin and Elise Wunder recorded their song with just the Martin and their vocal. Other artists such as Erik Lunde and AJ Fullerton added additional instrumentation and background vocals.

It was an honor to be involved with recording such fine artists and working with these truly fine people to make the vision for their song a reality. A variety of recording scenarios took place from doing multi-track to one take live recordings. Whippoorwill was recorded live with Alysia Kraft on guitar and vocals, Staci Foster on banjo, vocals, and Tobias Bank on drums. Staci then added harmonica to the track. Erik Lunde on his song "Vincent Van Gogh" added additional guitar parts, cello with Danny Zamzow, and background vocals with Sarah Joelle.

Along with the musicians, the team of Mark and Brenda Cummings, Lisa Wilson, Sara Durnill, and Larry Lewis have worked on the project from the beginning. We think you will thoroughly enjoy the album!

Here are the musicians on the album:

Grayson Erhard, A.J. Fullerton, Johnny Hickman, Michael Kirkpatrick, Brian Kittrell, Whippoorwill, Erik Lunde, Cary Morin, Sarah Slaton, Dave Tamkin,
